<< -- 3 -- Patric Standford REFRESHING REPERTOIRE
There are also five splendid Miniatures by Eurico
Carrapatoso (born 1962) heard as a generous homage to
Stravinsky and Poulenc and to Portuguese folksong. They end
with a lovely chorale
[listen -- track 26, 0:01-0:56].
And there are solo pieces too. Três Fragmentos by
António Pinho Vargas (born 1951), a jazz musician prominent in
contemporary music circles, is for solo clarinet. The
Panic Flirt [listen -- track 19, 2:28-3:28]
for solo flute, an allusion to the infamous
Greek god, is by Alexandre Delgado (born 1965). A refreshing
repertoire brilliantly played.
