Stroma commissions of this sort are funded by Creative New Zealand; a
body somewhat like the England's Arts Council or America's Endowment for
the Arts. But the costs of presenting non-New Zealand music are paid for
by commercial sponsorship.
These latter have included Austrian Karlheinz Essl's Entsagung
(1993) in an Ilott Concert Chamber presentation titled 'Atmospheric and
Ambient Chamber Music'; during March 2001. Fellow Austrian Olga Neuwirth's
Hooloomooloo (1996-97) was heard in February 2002 as part of the
2002 New Zealand Festival.

New Zealand première in April 2002 while For Your Eyes Only
(1989) from American composer John Zorn was first heard by Kiwis in a concert
titled 'Jazz ain't dead -- it just smells funny'; part of the Wellington
International Jazz Festival (2002).
