<< -- 3 -- Jennifer Paull THE BELL TOLLS TOO SOON FOR DEREK

With ever increasing workloads from The Chieftains and so much
music to arrange, that he found any time to work on a CD of Irish Music
for us both was just typical of the man.
I'm sure we'll work on it together in a better world. Until
then, my little brotherhood has lost a shining light of blazing creativity
and close family member; The Chieftains have lost irreplaceable wattage,
and Irish music, for which he was awarded an MBE for invaluable services,
has lost it's most dedicated, erudite, and devoted of flame fanners.
Derek, if they give wings to scallywags, you deserve the fluffiest pair.
Please be the first angel to play the oboe d'amore at those Heavenly
Gates!
Thank you for shining in all the ways you did, and for giving fun and
fizz no matter what the personal, uphill treadmill that was sometimes your
own.
I underwent a very painful musical injustice in which Derek drew his
sword and slayed the dragon. His middle initial was F for the friend
he was, but he should have had three more: G for generosity, C
for compassion, and L for loyalty.

Derek must be very happy! I just hope there are a few good Pubs up there!
