<< -- 3 -- Jennifer Paull KIPNIS' COCKTAILS
The CD concludes with more poetic landscapes far removed from those of
the Brahmsian Puszta or Dvorák's Czech folkloric inspirations.
Four Norwegian Dances Op 35 by Edvard Grieg take us to the folk traditions
of his native Norway: a beautiful performance [listen
-- track 16, 0:00-0:49].
Parnassus Records released the Duo's first CD Four Hands
(PACD 96030) containing live performances of works by Brahms, Schubert,
Ravel, Fauré-Messager, the Brazilian composer Calimerio Soares, and
Gershwin. I understand from Robert Gwynn of Palatine Recordings that a final Schubert/Brahms album
made by this superb musical duo before the very sad disappearance of Igor
Kipnis in January 2002, will shortly be released.
One wishes Karen Kushner the brilliant solo career she so deserves, and
a successful continuation along its path upon which, she is justifiably,
increasingly well established. More information about her recordings, those
of Igor Kipnis and the Duo's biography can be found on the Kipnis web
site.
Words without thoughts never to heaven go.
- William Shakespeare (1564-1616)
So can we be assured that Igor is where he should be, with his thoughts,
his music and an eternal supply of perfectly chilled Kipnis Cocktails!
