<< -- 3 -- Patric Standford Rewarding discovery
The Sixth Symphony is structurally and harmonically under tighter control
than the fifth, keeping the listener's attention, again with its mischievous
lightness [listen -- track 6, 0:00-0:52] and the
heroic and energetic optimism of its finale [listen
-- track 9, 0:00-0:59].
Technically this is a bright and clean recording with excellent wind
playing; musically it should prove pleasurably interesting to those keen
to unearth the unfamiliar legacy of 20th century music.
