<< -- 6 -- Keith Bramich Being truthful to the music

Meditation and practice -- a total connection
I was curious to learn how Chenyin's background affects her view of music,
so I asked about inspiration in music. What kind of music or aspects of
music, such as the emotional or the purely technical, make the deepest impression
on her. 'For me, music is just like living. You get everything from it,
and you also get everything from your life, so there's a total connection.'
'I always find it hard to name a favourite composer or piece -- they're
all so different. Every piece reflects something of life in your
nature, in your heart, in your own experience or even something you haven't
yet experienced. Each piece teaches something different, and that's why
I'm so fascinated. When I practise, it's just how I'm living my life.
'I meditate as part of my practice, and I treat this as a top priority.
Every day I leave a certain space or time only for myself, and for looking
at the past, the future and thinking about my current situation -- how I
look into life and how to remain myself when my situation changes.'
'It appears to other people that I have a very private lifestyle -- quiet
and perhaps rather plain. Nevertheless I find it very interesting -- there
is such beauty experienced in the simplicity of life, and it is constantly
renewing and growing. We are not always on top form, and sometimes we naturally
feel tired, fatigued and weak. Leaving this time for ourselves helps to
restore our own energy -- physically, spiritually and mentally.'
