Ukrainian Ludmila Magomedova, who doubles the role of Turandot on this
3-month tour with Monika Chabros and Natalia Margarit, is an alumnus of
Moscow's Bolshoi and the Berlin State Opera, and as imposing a Princess
(the inflexions, understandably, somewhat Russianish) as one could ask for
: forceful, though never tiresomely searing, she is neither a Birgit Nilsson
nor a mere waxwork, but a significant voice and presence, and into the bargain
a capable, indeed poignant, actress in the Act 3 garden wooing.
