Any composer represented by 73 minutes of his or her music on a CD is
at risk of losing a listener's staying power if heard in full. The matter
rests on a composer's strength of creative purpose. With, say, Debussy there's
no problem; with Philippe Gaubert there is a problem: a lesser composer
utilising impressionism to provide music to a style. It is carefully moulded
to the pattern [listen -- track 6, 1:22-2:34].
Kathryn Thomas plays enchantingly to Richard Shaw's discrete accompaniment,
so flautists and general listeners have convincing performances on record
to sample [listen -- track 11, 1:59-2:59].
