The Dutch Schubert Foundation
The Schubert Stichting (the Dutch Schubert Foundation) has announced its homepage, at which you'll find information
about the Schubert Masterclass (held since 1995, for young professional
singers and pianists) and the Foundation's concerts, lectures and twice-yearly
newsletter. The site is available in Dutch and English language versions.
Erudito
Classical music in Brazil is known as 'Erudito', and light-classical
music is termed 'Semi-erudito' ... if you're unfamiliar with the genre,
it could be worth visiting Luiza Azevedo's site which distributes CDs of alternative Brazilian music. There's
music here by Brazilian composers, produced independently, often by universities
and music schools, and the CDs tend to be inexpensive to buy. To find the
contemporary and classical CD page, click on CDs (top left) and then
select Semi-Erudito Erudito e Contemporaneo Brasileiro. There doesn't
appear to be an English language version of this page.
Carlos Kleiber
Conductor Carlos Kleiber appears to have cancelled all his November and
December concerts recently. You may be able to find out more by keeping
an eye on the Unofficial Erich
and Carlos Kleiber page maintained by Toru Hirasawa (in English and
Japanese).
Animals' Christmas
If you're looking for Christmas presents, it might be worth considering
Jimmy Webb's cantata of the Nativity story told from the perspective of
the animals on the scene. It's being released on CD, performed by Art Garfunkel,
Amy Grant and the London Symphony Orchestra, and information is available
on the Art
Garfunkel website.
