Classical Online Radio
Peter Ribbens is attempting to collect information about all the classical
music radio stations broadcasting live over the internet. There are 44 stations
listed so far on the Classical
Online Radio site.
Opera Magazine and the British Library National Sound Archive
Opera magazine's website is entirely updated every month, and includes
an eight-page sample of each month's magazine in PDF (Adobe acrobat) format.
Visit www.opera.co.uk
.
The British Library National Sound Archive is currently being upgraded
to include sound clips of some of the treasures in the British Library's
collections. The classical music page includes extracts from a unique recording
of Stravinsky in rehearsal, and of Bernac talking about Poulenc. International
music, pop and jazz is also included at www.bl.uk/collections/sound-archive
.
Both sites are edited by Richard Fairman.
Sviatoslav Richter site
Have you seen the Sviatoslav Richter site? Maintained by Paul Geffen,
this is well worth a visit at richter.simplenet.com
. Includes Richter memorial pages and a discography, and also a David Oistrakh
discography and Paul Geffen's 'mostly classical' pages.
George Kennaway
British conductor and cellist George Kennaway now has a website at www.knwy.freeserve.co.uk
in English and Russian, providing Kennaway's biography and details of his
repertoire.
Holland Festival of Early Music Utrecht
The Holland Festival of Early Music Utrecht has a new bilingual website
in Dutch and English. Much of the English information is still 'under construction',
though. The complete programme (60 main concerts) is available on-line,
including a fully staged Ercole Amante (Cavalli/Lully), and the entire keyboard
works of Jan Sweelinck. The festival runs from 26 August until 5 September,
and the new website (where you can order your copy of the complete brochure)
is at www.oudemuziek.nl
.

Friedrich Kuhlau: His Life and Works
Charles K. Moss has been collaborating with Dr. Gorm Busk of Virum, Denmark,
to produce a newly-enlarged article about the German/Danish composer Friedrich
Daniel Rudolf Kuhlau (1786-1832). Kuhlau's greatest works were his operas,
but he is better known for his piano sonatinas and pieces for flute ensemble.
The article is, in effect, an English translation of the first chapter of
Dr. Busk's book Friedrich Kuhlau: His Life and Works. This is the
first time that this information has been available in English. The Kuhlau
article (which will continue to be updated over the next few weeks) is at
classicalmus.interspeed.net/articles/kuhlau.html
.
Deja Views
Deja.com's Classical
Music Community was founded by Charles K. Moss in December last year.
This community page has a chatroom, forums and lots of links (bookmarks)
to other interesting places (including Music & Vision - thanks,
Charles!)
