More information about new or recently discovered music websites.
For orchestrators
A new mailing list has been set up for professional and academic arrangers.
To subscribe, visit www.onelist.com/subscribe/arrangers
. An excellent website for orchestration can be found at tiger.towson.edu/~jmeyer1/orchestration.html
.
Malcolm Galloway and Kathryn Thomas
A free low-volume e-mail list about classical music events in London
UK is run by Malcolm Galloway. Details at members.aol.com/malcolmjg/classical.html
. Malcolm Galloway also invites you to visit the website of Kathryn Thomas
and the Galliard Ensemble at members.aol.com/malcolmjg/Page1.html
.
Mascagni website
A new (unofficial) fan site about Mascagni plans to centralise on-line
information relating to Mascagni. Very little information was available
previously. With the exception of Cavalleria Rusticana, Mascagni's music
is underrated and rarely performed. Visit www.mascagni.org
. Comments welcome. A mailing list is also available.
Scores online
The T.I.S. Vocal Music Catalog
is a good and fairly competitive source for scores online, particularly
opera vocal scores. Some secondhand scores are available at bibliofind.com
.
Cheryl Studer
Cheryl Studer's 1999 schedule has been recently updated, and can be seen
on her home page at www.total.net/~mrgdp/1999sche.html
. The schedule and home page are maintained by the Cheryl Studer Society.
The Classical Singer
The Classical Singer magazine is online at www.classicalsinger.com
. Their articles are well worth a read. Some areas of this Classical Singer
Community website have free access, but a subscription is necessary to read
the on-line version of the magazine.
Parnassus Records
The online store Parnassus Records are at www.parnassusrecords.com
- particularly good for recordings on vinyl and their extensive catalogues
of difficult to find material.
Portuguese Classical Music
Luis Alfonso's Portuguese Classical Music site is at www.terravista.pt/Meco/2672/
. Contains information in English about composers Carlos Seixas, Luis Costa
and Joly Braga Santos (with an mp3 audio file sample of the music of each
composer).
Winterreise
Margo Briessinck's website devoted to Winterreise is at www.ping.be/gopera/lieder/winterreise/
. Contains articles, full texts, translations, MIDI files, performance reviews
and recording information.
