On 15 October 2018, I commented on the inauguration of the 2018-2019 symphonic season of the National Santa Cecilia Academy with Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story. I stressed that it was 'a turning point' because modern American music was entering a concert hall almost entirely dedicated to 'classical' music of the eighteenth and nineteenth century. The 'turning point' was fully confirmed on 2 November, the first of three evenings, when the program featured John Adams' oratorio-opera The Gospel According to the Other Mary for its Italian premiere...
