Ms Hall-Tompkins begins her enterprising recital with a sparkling account of Kreisler's unaccompanied Recitativo and Scherzo Caprice, Op 6.
Kreisler dedicated this piece to Belgian violin virtuoso Eugène Ysaÿe (1858-1931) who had earlier inscribed his own fourth solo sonata (see below) with the widely revered Austrian artist's name.
The girl from South Carolina follows with a charming six-minute love song: Liebeslied, adapted (by violinist Jaroslav Kocian: 1883-1950) from Josef Suk's 6 Pieces for Piano, Op 7. The mellow tonal ardour so characteristic of luthier Guarneri del Gesu — her violin, the 'ex-Henryk Kaston', 1732 — is amply illustrated via this track...
