With the exception of Wagner's Ring Cycle, Verdi's Don Carlo is, maybe, the only opera to have practically the whole spectrum of human emotions. As far as I know, it is also the only stage-work to boast three premieres. Originally composed for Paris, the work made its first bow on 11 March 1867...
