I was very excited to be given the chance to review this disc of one of my favourite pianists. My last piano teacher was Russian and knew Svjatoslav Richter well. I grew up listening to many of Richter's best recordings, particularly those of Schumann and also a lovely disc of Dvořák's Op 81 Quintet — one of the most riveting performances of this work I had ever heard.
It took me three listenings to really appreciate this disc, however, since sound recording technology has come a long way since the works here were recorded...
