This is the latest instalment in Marin Alsop's exceedingly fine Prokofiev symphony series on Naxos, and one can safely say that she has continued to improve on past issues. Compared with luminaries such as Rozhdestvensky and Karabits (Onyx), Alsop is remarkably circumspect in the first movement of Symphony No 6, which is marked Allegro moderato but which comes across as quite Andante here. The Largo is also very spacious but there is ample excitement in the final movement, marked Vivace...
