I believe we should count ourselves fortunate that as consummate a Danish recorder virtuoso as the distinguished Michala Petri (born 1958, Copenhagen) has brought her shining artistry to three of China's and one of Taiwan's most noted composers. Indeed Petri's recorders serve astonishingly well in spanning the gap separating both Occidental pitch and Chinoise tonal colors; best typified by the Chinese flute also known as dizi.
Even more, a top Danish Orchestra has consented to reach beyond its comfort zone to a musical idiom worlds removed from the symphonies of Nielsen or the whole gamut of European concertos.
For these sessions the CPO (Scandanavia) was conducted by Lan Shui; Principal conductor of Copenhagen Philharmonic and Principal guest conductor of Denmark's Aalborg Symphony...
