Felix Weingartner, who was born in Zadar, Croatia on 2 June 1863 and died in Winterthur, Switzerland on 7 May 1942, was undoubtedly one of the most fascinating musicians of the early twentieth century. As a child, Felix was interested in music, and particularly in composing, but after initial lessons in Graz his great break came in the early 1880s, when he became one of Liszt's pupils. The great man was very fond of his young prodigy, and the two struck a deep friendship which benefited Weingartner no end. The young musician was determined to dedicate his life to composing, but fate decreed otherwise...
