Sinfonia Viva's schools residency concert, heard by MIKE WHEELER
Just a few days after Sinfonia Viva's concert in Derby Cathedral, principal conductor Duncan Ward was back at the helm for the orchestra's annual schools residency concert (Derby Theatre, Derby, UK, 26 January, 2016), which this year took the centenary of the birth of Roald Dahl as its starting point. Derby Theatre worked well as a venue — not too big for the size of audience, with excellent sight-lines and good acoustics.
Once again, players from the orchestra worked with students from three local schools and Derby College, who came up with the words and music for the songs, which were then fleshed out with workshop leader, guitarist Jack Ross...
