Ferenc Farkas (1905-2000) can be regarded as the Hungarian Havergal Brian. Both lived well into their nineties, had a huge output, and were, for decades, contemporaries. Maybe the only difference is that Brian excelled in the symphonic genre, while Farkas is considered a champion of choral music. In his youth, Farkas was already keenly interested in church music, and in Rome (1929-1931) he attended the choral lessons given by Raffaele Casimiri, the editor of Palestrina's works...
