Korean pianist Jenna Sung chose a refreshingly wide-ranging programme for her contribution to Nottingham's Sunday morning piano series (Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham, UK, 15 November 2015).
Three sonatas by Soler were a masterclass in crisp, delicate finger-work, after which came the astonishing, undemonstrative virtuosity of Skryabin's Prelude and Nocturne, Op 9. These make no concessions to the fact that they are for the left hand alone; Sung's expert layering of the textures, while maintaining the music's flow, was all the more impressive as a result...
