Vocal Chamber Music
MIKE WHEELER is impressed by Mosaic at Derby Cathedral
Formed in 2007, Mosaic comprises eight trained and experienced singers from the East Midlands. The group is impressive equally for its blend, its unanimity — it was a joy to watch the continual interaction that made each item a piece of real vocal chamber music — and for an apparently infinite adaptability. The singers responded with equal assurance to everything from the intricate polyphony of the Kyrie from the Mass for double choir by Josef Rheinberger, to the overtone singing required in Finnish composer Jussi Chydenius' Charles Causley setting I am the Great Sun, and laid-back choral cabaret from Irving Berlin to Lennon and McCartney (Derby Cathedral, Derby UK, 31 October 2015)...
