As methods of bringing inner-city traffic to a near standstill go, routing a marathon through the centre is one of the most effective. Which is how I came to miss the first item — Beethoven's Op 126 Bagatelles — of Ashley Wass' opening recital in the new Sunday morning piano series at Nottingham's Royal Concert Hall (Nottingham, UK, 27 September 2015). A pity, since, to judge from his playing in the rest of the programme, his handling of Beethoven's set of quirky vignettes must have been vividly engaging...
