The 2015 Three Choirs Festival,

Of all the choral events on the calendar, the one to look forward to above all every year is the Three Choirs Festival, held this year in the marches city of Hereford. 2015 (25 July — 2 August) saw the celebration of its three-hundredth anniversary: 1715 is a speculative date, but is close to if not exactly marking the launch of the 'Music Meeting' which brought together the three (initially) cathedral choirs of Gloucester, Hereford and Worcester. From the outset, it was clearly an enlivened social, as well as musical, event.

There have since emerged a Southern Three Choirs Festival (Chichester, Salisbury, Winchester), a Yorkshire Three Choirs Festival (Leeds, Ripon and York), a Borders Three Choirs Festival (Carlisle, Newcastle and St Mary's Edinburgh) and — starting just this year — an Eastern Three Choirs Festival (Lincoln, Peterborough and Southwell)...
