Donizetti's 'La fille du régiment'
at Santa Fe Opera,

The Santa Fe Opera presented its first production of Gaetano Donizetti's delightful comedy La fille du régiment ('The Daughter of the Regiment') on Monday 2 August 2015. The composer wrote the work in Paris between 1838 and 1840 when it was the capital of the artistic world. His music is thoroughly Italian but his characters are charmingly French. That is the reason director Ned Canty translated a great deal of the opera's rather dry, original dialogue...
