Quartet for the End of Time

The Hallé Soloists' performance of Messiaen's Quatuor pour la fin du temps began in the middle. But the start of the fourth movement, 'Intermède', turned out to be the opening gambit in cellist Simon Turner's substantial illustrated introduction to the work (Buxton Festival, St John's Church, Buxton, UK, 20 July 2015).
