Agostino Steffani (1654-1728) was a highly regarded court composer, and during his lifetime his name was famous throughout the continent. Indeed, his music influenced such great names as Handel, J S Bach and Telemann, but after his demise at the age of seventy-four, his compositions fell into total neglect.

This live recording of one of Steffani's best operatic works will no doubt do a world of good towards his rehabilitation, and hopefully interest in his oeuvre will be reignited...
