In the latter part of the twentieth century, music of Iberia, especially Catalonia, was brought to increased attention by the extensive broadening of its scope by Xavier Montsalvatge (1912-2002). As both composer and critic, his profile was widespread, and his music stylistically far reaching. Whether rhapsodic or invoking rhythmic or popular dance forms, Montsalvatge's music remains brilliant, clear and individualistic.
The six violin and piano works were written in five decades, 1945 until 1994...
