Danielle Talamantes is a young (twenty-something to judge from the photos — singers' ages are better-kept secrets than anything MI5 keeps in its vaults) American soprano and is currently doing roles at the Met. Given modern opera houses' propensity to ruin young singers in an average of about seven years these days, one hopes this does not happen to her, as it will be a voice to watch as it comes to full maturity. On this recording we hear a bright, clear spintoish soprano of considerable promise, and she is obviously a beneficiary of the quality technical training that American singers get. There is also a go-getting American air about these performances, which sometimes works to advantage, sometimes not...
