If David Wilde's first Chopin volume was the live Wigmore Hall recital mentioned towards the end of this CD booklet, I know that a major work was the B minor sonata. It is a problem of any Chopin programme that it may seem just a collection of bits and bobs, but here Wilde ends his two halves, as it were, with the B flat minor sonata and Op 49 Fantaisie. His qualities can well be sampled in the splendid heroics of the A flat Polonaise, where his rhythmical flair is magnificent...
