On trouble in Atlanta,

One article 'trending' online at the moment records a young double bass player's disappointment at not being able to audition for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. The point of his article (see today's Lebrecht) was that, should the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra drop the baton (by failing, that is, which — God knows — would not be the fault of its players) then the entire southeast quarter of the US would be a desert, in terms of classical music.
He is, of course, pretty much correct, although there are some orchestras still holding up the banner for the art-form, especially in Florida...
