A memorial tribute to Claudio Abbado, drawn from concert performances — since he left an extensive studio discography — was certainly a fine idea. But this program, drawn from Lucerne Festival performances of 1978 and 1988, isn't it.
The first movement of the Unfinished — which Audite bills, in the modern fashion, as 'No 7'; I'm steering clear of the whole business — is simply poor. The hushed opening paragraphs move along, but to no particular purpose...
