Celebratory and Ambiguous
Mozart, Judith Weir and Ravel from the Lawson Trio at Buxton, heard by MIKE WHEELER
The award-winning Lawson Trio gave the first chamber recital of this year's Buxton Festival (Pavilion Arts Centre, Buxton, UK, 12 July 2014). They began with a lively, colourful performance of Mozart's C major Trio, K 548, perhaps missing some of the music's more subtle, delicate shades, but exploring the mysterious place at the centre of the first movement with sensitivity, and keeping the rondo finale crisp and buoyant.
