I entirely agree with the tenor of this CD, Norbert Meyn, that a modern grand would have been wrong as accompanying instrument. Apparently in similar context Fischer-Dieskau had a 'Tangentflügel', which I have never seen or heard. My personal choice would have been a harpsichord. The still, small voice of the clavichord, wonderfully sensitive as it is, cannot stand up to a concert singer, however carefully controlled...
