Robert Hanson's latest recording blends the beautiful with the obnoxious. Very little of the latter, however, is Hanson's fault. One must instead point the finger at the performers — some uninspired, others over-the-top. Plentiful are the composer's beautiful strokes, but nearly all fall victim to an overly enthusiastic soprano (Sarah Leonard) or the wholly ordinary and deflated playing of violinist Jane Gordon...
