Rossini's 'La Cenerentola' live in HD from New York, reviewed by MARIA NOCKIN
Gioacchino Rossini is supposed to have written the music to La Cenerentola ('Cinderella') in three weeks. He did, but he had some help and he cut a few corners. First, he reused the overture to his previous opera buffa, La gazzetta, ossia Il matrimonio per concorso ('The Newspaper, or The Marriage Contest'). He also took music from the tenor aria 'Cessa di più risistere', found in The Barber of Seville, and used it in Cenerentola's final aria, 'Non più mesta'...
