Ravel's 'The Child and the Spells: A Lyric Fantasy in Two Parts', an opera in one act, has a libretto by Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette (1925). It's Ravel's second opera, his first being L'heure espagnole with lyrics by Franc-Nohain (1872-1934). L'enfant et les sortilèges was introduced in Monte Carlo by conductor Victor de Sabata.
After being given the opportunity to write a musical work, Colette wrote her text in eight days...
