Fredrick Kaufman (born 1936, New York) studied trumpet and French horn at the 'A Vivaldi' Conservatory of Alessandria with Giacomo Zoppi. He qualified in composition with Felice Quaranta (1910-1992), Vincent Persichetti (1915-1987) at Juilliard and in jazz at Manhattan School of Music (1959/60). His conducting tutors were Igor Markevitch (1912-1983) and Franco Ferrara (1911-1985) at the Chigiana Academy of Siena.
He played trumpet with New York City Ballet Orchestra and later became professor of composition at the University of Wisconsin and served as dean of the Philadelphia College for the Performing Arts (1982-85)...
