In essence this [Derby Chamber Music, Multi-Faith Centre, Derby University, Derby UK, 19 April 2013] was an expanded repeat of Uttley's Sunday morning recital in Nottingham a month before.
The travel theme was more fully fleshed out this time, with Beethoven's 'Les Adieux' Sonata, Op 81a (composed to mark his friend and pupil Archduke Rudolph's departure from war-torn Vienna and eventual return) substituting for the Haydn of the earlier concert.
Here as throughout the evening Uttley's playing made the most of the music's contrasts...
