Sinfonia Viva's latest schools residency project, experienced by MIKE WHEELER
As we arrived in the Great Hall of Derby's Assembly Rooms (Derby UK, 21 March 2013) we were greeted by a soundscape of ticking and whirring clocks, together with the occasional owl hooting and ruffling its feathers, and the sight of a huge moon projected onto the floor. This was the setting for Sinfonia Viva's latest schools residency project, marking the three hundredth anniversary of the birth of Derby clockmaker John Whitehurst. As before on these occasions, students from three local primary and two senior schools and Derby College worked with musicians from Viva, composer Anna Meredith and workshop leaders James Redwood and Jack Ross, with each group composing its own individual segment...
