Agile and Impassioned
J S Bach's Suites for solo cello, heard by MICHAEL TREMBERTH
In this especially interesting and educational concert, which included extensive discussion of the works being played, Christoph Richter played J S Bach's Suite No 1 in G major BWV 1007 and, after an interval, Suite No 6 in D major, BWV 1012. The music critic and writer Richard Wigmore provided commentary and also discussed with the soloist Bach's writing for the unaccompanied 'cello. This dual structure of the recital was clearly to the liking of a very large Saturday afternoon audience [8 December 2012, St John's Hall, Penzance, Cornwall, UK], the largest I have seen at a Concerts Penzance event, and one that may point to a possible extra direction for the future...
