Though an eternal devotee of the Grieg Piano Concerto, which I heard very early on in my musical career, I have also a special affection for the Lyric Pieces, one of which gained me a youthful prize in the exotic surroundings of the music room (perhaps more Chinese than anything else) at the Brighton Pavilion, as imagined by George IV. It's no good asking me which one I played; I only know it was not one of those you will hear now. There are well over sixty pieces in the ten sets Grieg produced throughout his life, and this CD can sample less than a third of them...
