Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's La Clemenza di Tito ('The Clemency of Titus') has a rather uneven history. In July 1791, the last year of the composer's life, Prague impresario Domenico Guardasoni had been asked to provide a new work to celebrate the coronation of Holy Roman Emperor Leopold II, as King of Bohemia. He first contacted Antonio Salieri who said he was too busy.
Mozart was his second choice...
