Der Ring des Nibelungen is a cycle of four epic operas (1848 to 1874) aggregated as the sequential cycle by Richard Wagner with his own lyrics concocted loosely on characters from Norse sagas and the Nibelungenlied ('The Lay of the Nibelungs'), an epic poem in Middle High German.
In their entirety the four works last approx 14-16 hours. They are Das Rheingold (September 1869), Die Walküre (June 1870), Siegfied (August 1876) and Götterdämmerung (August 1876).
Today we welcome these Highlights in German (live on Melba Records MR301133-34 2CDs, lasting 2 hours 34 mins) selected from the complete recording made at Festival Adelaide, Australia in 2004...
