Although Berlioz was a great admirer of Rossini's last and most finely wrought French operatic comedy, the work soon found itself out of favour after its Paris premiere in 1828. Despite its many captivating moments, Ory's appearance has been very spasmodic. It is no surprise then, that this April 2011 revival is the first in the Met's one hundred and twenty seven year history.
The cast is to all intents and purposes a memorable one...
