The Finest of Them All
The 2012 Hereford Three Choirs Festival, experienced by RODERIC DUNNETT
The Three Choirs Festival is not only one of the most exciting and best choral events in England, but undoubtedly the finest of them all.
When one looks at the other major festivals, the Proms apart -- Buxton, Cheltenham, Harrogate, Norwich, Kings Lynn -- one is impressed by their inventive programming, rich array of soloists and individual atmospheres and character. But the Three Choirs has something extra: the unique setting of the three cathedrals of Gloucester, Hereford and Worcester; generous catering; a mixture of formality and informality that is quite distinctive; and added to the array of solo recitals and ensembles, the special uniqueness of a series of evening choral concerts that are magnificent in content and thrilling in delivery.
A word first on those recitals...
