Latvian Magic from pianist Reinis Zarins,
heard by BILL NEWMAN
Reinis Zarins, born in Riga in 1985, started performing at seven and studying under Jazeps Medins and Emil Darzins at the Latvian Music Academy, and then the Royal College of Music in London. A Student of the Year Award was followed by top prizes in eleven international competitions, notably the Bedrich Smetana International of the Czech Republic and the Jacques Samuel Piano Competition, London. Apart from Latvia, he has visited the other Baltic States and played as an all-round musician in The Netherlands, the UK, Germany, Ukraine, Russia and the USA.
