MALCOLM TROUP reports on the 2012
Beethoven Piano Society of Europe's
chamber music masterclass, concert and competition

The evening at Steinway's in London on 31 May 2012 was the crowning event of the BPSE's three-day Annual Beethoven Chamber Music Masterclass, Concert and Competition -- this time for violin/piano and cello/piano duos. To mark the occasion we were joined by the newly arrived Head of Steinway, Craig Terry, who has already endeared himself to London's musical scene. So often the ever-escalating standard set by such competitions conduces to a complacency and so it was in the flawless execution of violinist Noelle Grübler and pianist Bernadette Bartos, piano -- first to appear and both well-known to BPSE audiences from their impressive recital in our Summer Festival last year.

Noelle Grübler already scored high in the fashion stakes with a stylish long black gown encrusted with rhinestones and sporting a train which kept getting between her legs and which she had to remember to kick deftly out of the way when it did...
