'Sprezzatura' (or nonchalance) was coined by Italian courtier, diplomat, soldier and prominent Renaissance author Baldassare Castiglione (1478-1529) in The Book of the Courtier (1528). It was intended to indicate rehearsed spontaneity, and well-practiced naturalness; in other words to avoid affectation in every way possible.
