Granados based his two books of Goyescas on tapestry cartoons by Goya he had seen at the Prado in Madrid. There is no hint in this enchanting music of the fact that Goya was hauled before the Inquisition for painting nude females, or indeed that some of his finest work was inspired by horrors experienced during the Peninsula War.
